Drop, cover, hold!

On Thursday it the National Shake out day and lots of people around New Zealand did an earthquake drill, which is a practise. A sound came over the speakers and we had to get under a table and hold on. We had to cover our head because we have to look after our brains.
Here is some of the writing we did today. We put in some pictures of us under the tables to show what we did when we did the earthquake drill.

Maui and the Sun

Last term our inquiry topic was Myths and Legends. We looked at lots of different myths and legends. We really enjoyed learning about Maui and we drew the sun from Maui and the Sun.
We practised first by drawing them in our inquiry books. We practised drawing the half sun and then a full circle to see which one we liked best.

 Savannah and Jordis's practise sun

 Cheldyn and Vaka's Practise sun

 Mariah and Jairus's practise sun

 Fereti's practise Sun

 Chance and Lino's practice sun

 Orlando's practise sun

Jah and Dane got to take Mariana's sun home.

Then we did them on a big piece of paper

If you went to the Matariki light festival at Te Oro you might have seen some of our artwork because it was on display at an exhibition!

We can write- By room 2

This week in Room 2 we have been reading the big book I can write. The book is about a boy who shows us all the places he can write, so we decided we would make a book of the places that we write in our classroom.

Room 2's alphabet book

This term in Room 2 we have been practising our letter sounds. We know all of our letters and letter sounds now and we are starting to learn blends. We made a book to share our learning about letters and letter sounds.
Check, check, check it out!

Sharks guided reading

Today during reading time we were practising reading like we are talking.
First we looked at the different punctuation marks in the book and talked about what we do with our voices when reading.
Then we looked through all the pictures to give us clues about the book.
In this photo you can see the picture of the map, after we read the book once we read it to each other and tried to follow the path on the map.

Writing in Room 2!

Today we went to the sandpit to make sandcastles. We found out that patting wet sand was the best way to build a big sandcastle. Some of us worked with buddies and some of us worked by ourselves. Look at these pictures and let us know who you think has made the biggest sandcastle.
